Phoenix Area Live Theater, Ballet & Symphony Arizona's only full time professional orchestra, the Phoenix Symphony offers more than 275 concerts and events each year and is able to seat more than 2,000 guests. Classical and pop concerts are offered in downtown Phoenix as well as many community presentations. The Herberger Theater is a non-profit theater located in downtown Phoenix that offers more than 40 different performances each year. The Herberger Theater is home to Actor's Theater, Arizona Theater Company and Center Dance Ensemble. The Orpheum Theater is home to the professional opera company, Phoenix Metropolitan Opera. They present two fully staged productions each year. Ballet Arizona is Phoenix, Arizona's professional ballet company and has been around for 23 years. Thirty six dancers will perform at six shows this year, such as Romeo & Juliet and MidSummer's Night Dream. The Orpheum Theater is the Valley's most significant theater. It opened in 1929 and is listed on the the National Register of Historic Places. With detailed arches and columns this theater is a beautiful point of pride for Phoenix and a huge part of the history of the city. Dance, opera, live theater you can see just about any type of show here. They also give public tours of the building once a month. A regional theater, the Valley Youth Theater's goal is to offer cultural opportunities to kids throughout Arizona. They produce six shows each season with the help of over 300 kids from Arizona. Phoenix Theater is the oldest arts institution in the State of Arizona and the only theater in Phoenix that has professional theater for adults on their Mainstage and youth theater with their Cookie Company. Peoria's new Center for Performing Arts is home to Theater Works with a 280 seat main stage auditorium, and 80+ seat black box theater they bring award winning performances to the West Valley. Childsplay is Arizona's professional theater for kids and families. With more than eight performances each year this is the spot to see your favorite storybook come alive. The Great Arizona Puppet Theater has been entertaining the Valley for more than 20 years featuring classic fairy tales as well as puppet shows to celebrate Arizona's culture. The Mesa Arts Center, is host to the Shakespeare Theater where you can see classical works of Shakespeare, Moliere, and others. Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts offers 1,000 diverse performances of classical, jazz, theater, modern dance, and festivals. ASU's Gammage Auditorium is located on the Tempe campus of Arizona State Univeristy. They have several broadway shows each year including Cats, Lion King, and Wicked. The historic hall was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Dodge Theater indoor arena seats 5,500 people and hosts many different musical artists,sporting events and shows.
Tucson Area Theater Arizona Theater Company is a professional theater company that performs in both Phoenix and Tucson. Plays from the classics to the contemporary. Ballet Tucson is Tucson's professional ballet company. Ten dancers will perform six shows this year including: The Nutcraker and Sleeping Beauty. The oldest running performing arts program in the Southwest is the Tucson Symphony.The orchestra was founded in 1928 and now has over 60 concerts each season. Performances can be seen at the Tucson Music Hall as well as the Tucson Symphony Center
