Getting from Here to There
Referred to as “The Valley of the Sun” or just "the Valley." Phoenix is a sprawling laid back city, you will not see too many people “dress up” to go out. Dress is casual or casual-dressy in most restaurants. After all it is the desert and there is still an old west influence in this metropolitan city. It has had a huge influx of people in recent years. Relatively young, it is still experiencing growing pains building up downtown, and in the process of creating the new light rail system. Due to the grid like road system Getting around Phoenix is pretty easy.

Short history lesson-What’s in a Name?
According to Egyptian legend, a Phoenix was a giant mythical bird that arose from the ashes of a previous Phoenix. Phillip Darrell Duppa, one of the founders of modern day Phoenix, felt this was an appropriate name for this new city in the desert. Modern day Phoenix arose from the ashes (so to speak) of the Ho ho kam people, whose roots can be traced as far as back as the 14th century. They were expert farmers and built over 135 miles of irrigation canals to water their crops. Those same canals are used today in modern day Phoenix. So thus, Phoenix in a sense was a city reborn.
