Visiting the Saguaro National Park
|
The Saguaro is the icon of the American Southwest. Fascinating not only in form, but in the fact that thousands reside here in Tucson in the Saguaro National Park. No where else in the world can you view this saguaro studded forest. Late May and Early June visitors are in for a treat- the Saguaro in all its glory will produce beautiful white blooms this time of year.
The Saguaro National Park is divided into two areas West of Interstate 10 and East of Interstate 10. The two parks are aprox. 30 minutes apart.
Cactus Forest Scenic Loop Drive is aprox 8 miles of paved road in the (East) Saguaro National Park Bajada Loop Drive (West) is a popular unpaved 6 mile drive. The Loop begins at Hohokam Road, one and a half miles west of the Red Hills Visitor Center. Leaving the Red Hills Visitor Center, turn right onto Kinney Road. Follow Kinney Road 1.6 miles (2.6 km) to the loop’s entrance on the right. The Loop ends where golden Gate Road meets Sandario Road.
