Skiing and Snowboarding in Arizona

 

 

There are several great spots to enjoy the white stuff in this desert state. Imagine skiing or snowboarding in the morning and playing golf the same evening. Now you may have so much fun playing in the snow that you won't have time for golf on the same day. But hey, It doesn't get any better than this.

Northern Arizona

Arizona Snowbowl
The most well known spot to ski in Arizona is Arizona Snowbowl aproximately 2-3 hours from Phoenix, depending where in Phoenix you start your trip. There are five ski lifts with the highest being 11,500 feet and there are 32 runs/trails. The longest run is two miles. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the snow whether you are a beginner skier or an advanced skier.

This place is packed during the holiday season. In the summer you can visit and take a skyride or hike.

Flagstaff Nordic Center
Those who enjoy cross country skiing and snowshoeing head out to the Nordic Center in Flagstaff. Over 25 miles of groomed snow trails through the tall Pines, there are more than 10 different trails to choose from. Ski Rentals and instruction for both adults and children are available. Lodging is also available

Elk Ridge Ski Area
The Elk Ridge Ski Area is geared towards families, beginners and intermediate skiers. There are two lifts and seven trails. There is also a tubing hill, which is tons of fun for the whole family.

Central-Eastern Arizona

Sunrise Park is the largest ski area in Arizona. It is located in the beautiful White Mountains. Sunrise offers 8 ski lifts that cover three mountains, 65 runs,snowboarding trails, 13 miles of trails for cross country skiers, a tubing hill for the kids. Sunrise park is beautiful with activities year round, skiing, tubing,horseback riding, sleigh rides, hiking, fishing. This area is really beautiful. Lodging is available as well.

Southern Arizona

Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley
The southernmost ski resort in the United States is Mt. Lemmon in Tucson, Arizona. Located in the Catalina Mountain, Mt Lemmon Ski Valley has one ski lift and eighteen ski trails.

Location: take the Catalina Highway off Tanque Verde Road in Tucson. Drive 4.2 miles to the Forest boundary and continue 26 miles to the Ski Valley turnoff. This is a really pretty drive, but it is slow because of all the winding roads. 4x4 or snow chains are necessary in heavy snowfalls.
